This old brother and his wife are concluding a study with a single mother and her 10 year old daughter. He says, "Let's thank Jehovah". The girl asks meekly, "can I thank Jehovah"? He says "no, because I'm a brother I have to say the prayers here." The little girl is reduced to tears. The mother is a bit mortified. The sister knows better and encourages her husband to talk to the COBE. He does and gets dressed down for being so unreasoning. Now when they call to set up the next study the mother doesn't answer. I wonder why? Have you run into such dogmatic idiots while you were among God's happy and loving people?

They disregarded the warnings that it was dangerous to sail in that area and even told friends that they were going there despite the warnings. It was their own hubris and stupidity that brought their death about. They were on a trip spreading "the Gospel" around the world fromt their boat. That alone shows they weren't the brightest bulbs. It's sad either way.

by Perry ini was 12 years old in 1975. for years before then, i believed that i was a bad child and would not live to see my 13th birthday.
i remember that starting around january 1976, i didn't believe a word anyone said, especially an adult, my parents, much less the elders.
i do not remember much of my teen years.

Though baptized in 1974 I didn't beleive the 1975 thing. "No man knows the day or hour" always rang true to me. I still got sucked into the fervor of the times though. I was inactive by late 1975 for 11 years.

Here in California they instituted an odd or even approach to getting gas. Those whose car lisence plate ended in an odd number could get gas one day and the even ones on the next. Despite that arrangement there were actual fights over who got he pump. It wasn't strictly enforced but the people in their cars were adamant about who got the gas. It was worse than what we've had in recent years because of availability rather than price though that went very high for the time. Good luck with the paper.

the wt society has their own definition of what's considered " lawless ".
anything that's considered a disfellowshipping offense in the jehovah's witnesses is now considered " lawless ".
